Suspended Coffee

Have you ever seen a homeless wretch outside a café and secretly wished you could do something for them? Suspended coffee helps you to make a small yet significant difference in some one’s life. You can now walk out of a coffee shop feeling good about something apart from the coffee you just had. Tracing back its roots, this noble concept emerged in Italy. Espresso Sospeso Translating as ‘suspended coffee’ the idea is simple, when you walk into a coffee shop and purchase a coffee, you pay for two coffees instead of one. Sounds absurd, doesn’t it? Well, that’s the entire catch behind this act of benevolence. As per the custom, the extra coffee that you’ve paid for remains behind the counter until a person who cannot afford it enters the café and asks for a suspended coffee. The coffee will then be given to them absolutely free of charge as an unknown archangel has already paid for it. They say, the purest act of kindness is the one in which you’re anonymous. There are still some questions raised against this concept. Questions like, are people actually availing the free coffees or its just making the cafes richer by the hour?

This entire notion of Suspended Coffee is going around a while now. Although it started in Italy it’s now starting to take off across Canada, already reaching Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. It’s even spread to Ireland in beginning of 2013. Major retailers like Costa Coffee and Café Nero have embraced this concept. Majority coffee shops in UK now provide suspended coffees. In China many cities are offering suspended noodles instead of suspended coffees. Despite the variation, the spirit behind suspended coffee is maintained.

Suspended coffees are a cheap yet effective way to bring a smile on some ones face. Spreading this idea all over the world will help in restoring humanity. So, let the coffee that you love so much spread happiness all across the globe.

With its increasing popularity all over the world the question of thought is, Will this noble idea work in India?

Will coffee shops in India be comfortable with beggars walking in and asking for a suspended coffee? Or will they dismiss the idea by the fear of their customers feeling intimidated by the presence of a vagabond?

Well, as they say an act of kindness is never easily achieved.

Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love. – Lao Tzu
