We love Mumbai and we had put up a post on 5th of April 2013 about the famous foods of Mumbai. We hope you liked our previous post and would like to know more about the food here. We hunted for more such delicacies and have talked about it in today’s post.
Sandwich
When you hear about sandwich, you may feel that this is a dish that’s available almost everywhere. So what’s so great about having it especially from Mumbai? The sandwich that we are talking about is the street side and street made sandwich that has a distinct Bombay taste to it. It has the normal slices of beetroot, onions, potatoes, cucumber, tomatoes etc. What make it different are the spicy mint chutney and the generous spread of butter which may sound lethal for your stomach but is a treat for your taste buds. There is also a toast version of the same sandwich which is a steamed up version of the same dish.
The best place in Mumbai to have sandwiches is Jai Sandwich outside National College, Bandra West
Brun Maska and Chai
If you are new to this city and want to revisit and relive the old charm of Bombay, you must go to one of the Iranian restaurants or a Parsi Café in Mumbai. The Brun Maska (Bread & Butter) and Chai (tea) is a signature dish at such old time restaurants. Brun Maska is very similar to French breads which are crisp and crusty on the outside but are soft from the inside.
It is available at all Iranian restaurants, but if you really want to go back in time then Kyani & Co is the place to go.
Bhel Puri
Bhelpuri is a savory Indian snack which is often recognized with the beaches of Mumbai. It is also the most commonly sold snack in the city. It is made using puffed rice, tangy tamarind sauce, potatoes, Papadis laced with a generous mix of masala and chutneys.
The best place to have Bhel puris are any of the many beaches in Mumbai.
Mumbai is vibrant because of the people and food. The various types of food available here are often a mix and match of the cuisines brought in by the people of different regions of the world who have made Mumbai their home. It is actually this variety and color that makes Mumbai a cosmopolitan city that it is.
