Interview with Food Blogger – Padhu Sankar

Interview with Food Blogger – Padhu Sankar !

We recently got in touch with Padhu Sankar and interviewd her for our Interview with Food Blogger Program. Padhu Sankar is an ambidextrous in true sense. She is a web designer, a recipe developer and a photographer. She also takes a keen interest in yoga, artwork and gardening.

Padhu is the creator of Padhuskitchen which features simple but scrumptious Indian Vegetarian recipes, healthy recipes, kids friendly recipes, Indian festival recipes, traditional South Indian Vegetarian recipes, cooking basics and lot more.

Padhu cooks food with fresh vegetables which comes straight from her kitchen garden and is an ardent believer of organic food. With her blog she aims to inspire others to cook and has done the same to teach from the grass-root level for the beginners.

Quick questions with Padhu:

1.What are your favorite cuisines or a specific dish (both Indian & International)?

When it comes to Indian food, my favorite is of course Biryani.

I am a big fan of TexMex cuisine. I love their tacos, burritos, tortillas etc.

2.Name three ingredients which you tend to use in most of the recipes.

Seeds – sesame seeds

Herbs – Coriander leaves, mint leaves

Spices – especially cumin seeds & turmeric powder

3.What inspired you to start your own website and how do you maintain it given that you are a web designer and have a vast list of hobbies and interests?

I love cooking and it is my creative outlet. Both my children love and appreciate my cooking a lot. So at one point I wanted to share my knowledge of cooking with others. As I already had a blog on beauty, creating Padhuskitchen.com was much easier for me. I work for 5-6 hours for 6 days a week doing things related to my website.

4.How do you find time for yoga, painting, gardening and others interests after maintaining two successful websites?

I am an early riser and also a very good planner. My day starts at 4.30 in the morning which gives me ample time for my hobbies. I plan my day with a “To do list” or what needs to be done on that day as it helps me accomplish what I intend to do.

5.Why and how important organic food is to you? What are the few measures you take to keep your food organic?

I love organically grown foods as they are free of harmful chemicals, they are more nutritious, tasty and it also cooks faster. Though organic products are a bit expensive, it is actually cheap in the longer run. Every single rupee we spend on organic food is an investment in our health. Going organic not only helps us but also the environment.

In the little space in my backyard, I grow vegetables using natural fertilizers. I also compost my bio degradable waste. I make frequent visits to the local farmers who grow vegetables using natural fertilizers to get vegetables and fruits needed for my family.

6.Name a dish you tasted in a restaurant which was completely lip smacking.

To be very frank, I love simple home cooked food and feel nothing can beat the taste of home cooked meals.

7.How do you choose recipes you put up on your website?

Well, I choose recipes in such a way that it is nutritious and at the same time easy to prepare. I also share lot of traditional recipes which are made easier with the use of modern gadgets.
